#55 The sound of silence

• It takes few steps to get away from the noisy crush of tourists in S. Marco and Rialto and rediscover the charming venetian atmosphere we all know very well, made of silence and sound of footsteps in the distance.
To be true, it wasn't really like this until a not so remote past; the city teemed with busy people and the noise of thousand voices filled houses and alleys.
Then, starting in the last century, a silent and unstoppable exodus has turned Venice into the ghost of itself it often seems to have become.
For that, the imposing brick facade of church of Frari, in S. Polo district, seems to stand as a helpless guardian of this emptiness.
